MAKE GOOD GRADE IN YOUR SIWES DEFENCE AND INDUSTRIAL TRAINING
How To Make a Good Grade in Your SIWES Defence
HINTS ON MAKING A GOOD GRADE IN SIWES DEFENCE
The following information is for our final years. It is all about 6 months I.T defence. It will interest you to know that some students whom are good academically can make “B” in their I.T defence which can bring down their CGPA. I did not know about this until towards my own defence. Then I learnt from MR. AFINJUOMO (SIWES coordinator) that your log book and the report is 60% while the defence is just 40%. You may be amazed to hear that average score we had then from the log book and report was around 21-24 over 60. Though, few made up to 30-40 and some still made around 19 over 60. That was very poor. So I asked him “sir why these poor scores?” That was when he took time to explain to me how they do the grading in met-mat which i shall be explaining to us here. This write up in no order is divided into three parts (filling the log book, report writing, and main defence).
HINTS ON FILLING YOUR LOG BOOK
Like I said the log book and report is 60%. If you notice EKSU log book does not have much space for drawing and if you don’t have enough sketches or drawing you may lose some marks. So what you need to do is to attach ‘A4’ paper for your drawings. Ensure to cut the paper to the log book size (i mean the width of the log book) so it does not just budge out and then look rough. It must be neatly arranged. Also, the log book is not properly arranged for filling of daily reports. In some other schools their report is weekly not daily. So for the Eksu folks, do not be limited with the space. It is not possible that you finish learning any skill within ‘one’ day. You can do well and write in continuous sentence along the days. Please write in simple language but always use technical terms. Make sure your work is very NEAT. (This is very important). You can fill with pencil and after correction from your boss in the office you then write in ink or better, write in another book and ask your boss to review before you fill to your log book. Don’t forget you don’t fill what you cannot defend properly. Even if you did it, so far you do not know much of it just skip it.
Finally for look book, make sure all signatories are entered especially the I.T.F and the company. I hope you know the company will sign every week and there must be stamp.
That was for the log book; now let us talk of your SIWES report.

HINTS FOR SIWES DEFENCE
The first question may be “what did you do within this period?” When you give your answer endeavour to say what you know very well. Avoid talking much, just go straight to the point (Preferably use that opportunity and talk about many areas you learnt very well). Watch! your answer will determine the next question for you and that may be a little bit outside what you did. So ensure to write in your report, log book and speak on your defence only ‘what you know VERY WELL’. During your defence you can lead the interviewers, don’t allow them to lead you. (I hope you know what I mean here. Every words pronounced from your response should be on topics you will be willing to entertain questions. Otherwise do not use the word). Your report must be on only the topics you knowwwwwwwwww very wellllllllllllllllllllll. Don’t say I did not tell you.
Finally I hope you don’t need to be told that you must dress smart and talk with boldness. While talking, be looking at your interviewers straight on their eyes (it shows boldness).
Thank you….
